I am not a tremendously religious person, though I am spiritual. It concerns me a great deal to listen to people attribute various ideologies to Christianity that are hurtful to others, things that Jesus never said or even hinted at with regards to what we have on record. Jesus was a amazing human being who cared deeply for others. He battled hate and hypocrisy, and stood up for the poor and downtrodden. He didn’t give people handouts per se, he gave them hand-ups. He said to give to the poor, not to drug test or humiliate them first. His life, his responses to the world and the lessons he taught are worth checking out, regardless of your religion.
Leann Schmidt is a local Pittsburgh artist who grew up in East Liberty and now lives in the South Hills.
